TOWN
OF GREENFIELD

Notes
and comments from the Supervisor
Brookhaven Board Votes to Donate to
Greenfield
The Board of Directors of O.B. Beyer Recreation Park Inc. has voted to
grant the donation of the Brookhaven Golf Club and associated lands to the Town
of
Greenfield
. The non-profit board was formed in
1960 to provide oversight of the recreational area for International Paper
Company employees of the Corinth Plant. A
nine hole course was built and followed by an additional nine holes.
The course was designed by George Pulver, a local golf pro and expert.
Pam Thomas says “The original facility was planned to have expanded
recreational areas besides the course. In
2002 the IP Corinth mill closed and the use of the golf course by the former
mill employees waned.”
“Municipal courses are experiencing renewed interest in tough economic
times as they are usually more affordable and well maintained.
Private/members only course fees are harder to justify.
Yet recreation is an important factor to the residents of a community”,
said Dick Rowland, Supervisor of the Town of
Greenfield
.
Recreation areas can be added to the Park so as not to affect the play of
golf and will give the residents of all communities a nice, safe place to enjoy
benefits of life in
Saratoga
County
.
“Brookhaven comprises 380 acres, all but 27 are in the Town of
Greenfield
and the majority of the employees are from
Greenfield
”, stated Pam Thomas, Vice-President of O. B. Beyer Board of Directors.
“It makes sense to move the park forward with
Greenfield
.”
Greenfield
will hold two public information meeting on Sept. 2nd and Sept. 9th
at 6:30 PM at the
Greenfield
Community Center
to let the public know more about plans for this important park.
